Earlier in the year the 7th grade teachers all planned a field trip for us at this annual festival they always hear about. The festival shows a movie/film that is is Spanish. This years movie was called Mi Mejor Regalo or My Greatest Gift. It was about a man who had a good career and at the height of his whole career a little girl comes into his life. Her mother was the man's previous wife, but she recently died and she came to live with him. They learned to adapt to each other and once they did the man/dad was told by the grandfather that really wasn't his daughter. Although she wasn't his daughter he still chose to take care of her and treat her like she was his daughter.
On the premiere date of the new Cesar Chavez movie MCLA's 7th grade class went to Regal Cinema to watch the movie there. It gave students a better understanding of, the culture identity elective class, focal point. Students also were able to comprehend all the teaching given so far from that movie.
The Centro Cultural de Raza wasn't much long ago, but that changed 40 years ago. 40 years ago this place, which is now visited by people around the world, was just a water storage. The water storage was for Balboa Park. Until Balboa came up with money, enough to install pipes. Once they did that they decided to create a center for artists, to do what ever they wanted to do from dancing, to singing, and art. This place was a skate park for artists. Once it was purchased they decided to name it the center of culture, that is the history of this now very historic place.
Centro Cultural de Raza has beautiful art and history. To continue, they embrace many cultures not only Chicano. They offer dance, singing, and art opportunities that are wonderful for artists. I was able to reflect and appreciate artists in a different manner. Now I know it takes a lot more than a brush and paint you have to have feeling and passion also emotion or you can't expect people to comprehend as well. With this educational experience I was able to understand art better.

Chicano Park has history that is important to our community and most of us should know, but we don't. In 1970 San Diego was going to bulldoze the current Chicano Park area and make it a Highway Patrol parking area and station. Although, it was for sure citizens still did not agree especially the Mexican community. The city had already promised a park so it just gave people more reason to get their way by receiving a new park for children to play in. Everybody gathered in the community and marched and protested the day of the bulldozing and walked in front of the big machines in an effort to stop them. It did work and the Chicano community wasn't funded to make this park it was all on them, but they were able to pull through and develop a park the whole world can now enjoy.
After going on this field trip I was able to reflect and recognize some of my cities history. From taking my other field trip to the center of culture I was able to improve my reflection. Although I developed more appreciation for atr work it increased the day we went to Chicano Park. I also discovered that there can be way more meaning behind paintings. Just like normal everyday people I used to think of murals as walls with paint on them to decorate a place or add color to it. But, people use murals to their advantage to express their feelings and show case their talent in a beautiful way. Now that I have a better understanding of murals I can appreciate them more.
